When Castaway Play was established in March 2019 we made a firm commitment to make our play centre a destination for all children to enjoy.
From our personal experience (having a son diagnosed with ASD and a niece with Cerebral Palsy) all of our team are extremely passionate and dedicated to Inclusive Play.
Castaway is designed to be a feast for the senses and with sensory play at the forefront of our minds. Sensory Play areas includes Sand, Water, Tactile Surfaces and Lighting. Within the Lost World Jungle Area there are also designated ‘Den’ areas for some chill out time.
The year 2020 saw the arrival of our Space themed sensory chill out room which we named ‘Anais Space Sensory Room’ for our gorgeous niece Anais. 😀🚀.
We have also introduced changing facilities for disabled children in our Jungle Toilets. All children deserve to be changed in comfort and privacy and we will strive to achieve this. Our tailored Additional Needs sessions will continue to run on the last Sunday of the month 10am – 12noon.
We also offer specially dedicated Additional Needs Events so SEN children get the same opportunity to enjoy Character visits/meeting Mascots.
Unlike others we offer these at peak times… why should these children have to wait until they are tired and hungry to get access to play?
These sessions are limited numbers to help those children who may become overwhelmed.
We have also added a disabled swing in the Georgia Leigh Ogden Playground which has a five point harness for your little ones to enjoy.
We do also suggest after school play for those looking for quiet play term time in the week. Our final promise from us to you is the dedication, compassion, understanding and willingness to help from our staff. Sometimes that little bit extra help to settle a child in unfamiliar surroundings is all they need to get the most out of their play.
We want you to have an enjoyable Castaway experience so will strive to help you achieve this.
Our continued investment is also in our Castaway team – when we recruit we look for this… experience and knowledge so come and talk to us, we are passionate about being fully inclusive!
